Cuculi Records

Cuculi Records is a DIY alt/folk community label based in Bristol, UK. It was co-founded in 2020 by Beth Roberts and other members of Hands of the Heron as a space to cultivate music on their own terms, and carve out a thoughtful space in the industry to share new music that defies easy genre definition.

Cuculi [cu-CU-li] is an anglicisation of κουκούλι, the Greek word for ‘cocoon’ – a dark, quiet space for shapeshifting; a metaphor for the process of songwriting & music-making; a transformation of our experiences through art.

Their artist roster is a family of projects created by friends from their community, with a focus on alt-folk, lofi chamber pop and reimagined traditional music. Many of their artists collaborate with each other on different phases of the music-making process – artwork, production, video-making & press – because it takes a village to make an album. Current releasing artists include Fritillaries, Claire Vine, Something Sleeps and Suzi MacGregor.

They also run events in an ongoing series called Cuculi Presents, inviting artists from the local scene and beyond to play listening gigs in interesting, immersive spaces around Bristol. Previous gigs include tlk, Rachael Dadd, Fran & Flora, Spindle Ensemble, Kate Griffin & Matchume Zango, Séamus Óg, Tmasin Elliott & Tarek Elazhary, Amy May Ellis, Mikey Kenney & Victor Herrero.

Tickets for all upcoming gigs can be found via Headfirst.
